P20BD AdBlue Fault Code: Meaning, Symptoms & Causes

P20BD is a generic diagnostic code meaning "Reductant heater B control circuit". It is recorded when the engine control system detects a problem with the AdBlue heater circuit. It is a shared code used by many manufacturers, so the cause varies by vehicle and has to be confirmed with a full diagnostic check.

Symptoms vary by vehicle. These are the most commonly reported:

  • AdBlue system warning, often in cold weather
  • Engine management light
  • A restart countdown on some vehicles

Possible causes of P20BD

These are possible causes, not a diagnosis. The code alone doesn't tell you which part has failed.

  • A heater element fault
  • Wiring or connector faults
  • Heater relay or supply problems
  • Control signal faults

What our technician checks

Every vehicle is checked before any work or price is agreed.

  • Full fault scan
  • Heater circuit resistance and supply checks
  • Wiring and connector checks
  • Live data for heater operation

Available solutions

We confirm the fault first, then explain the options for your vehicle, including AdBlue Delete and Removal software where your vehicle is suitable. If a different kind of work is needed, we'll tell you honestly.

Customer questions

Questions customers ask us

Still unsure? Send us your registration and a photo of the warning on WhatsApp.

Ask on WhatsApp
What does fault code P20BD mean?

P20BD means "Reductant heater B control circuit". The control system has detected a problem with the AdBlue heater circuit. The code tells you where the problem was detected, not which part has failed.

Is P20BD more common in winter?

AdBlue freezes at around -11°C, so the heaters work hardest in cold weather and a heater fault often shows up then. The circuit still needs checking to confirm the cause.

Can P20BD cause a restart countdown or reduced power?

On some vehicles, yes. Many diesel vehicles start a countdown or limit performance when an AdBlue fault stays active, but the response depends on the manufacturer and model.

What checks are needed for P20BD?

A full fault scan, live data and checks on the AdBlue heater circuit. We look at the whole report, because related codes often show where the problem really is.

Can a mobile technician attend?

Yes, subject to technician availability. We are mobile, so we come to your home or workplace. Send your registration, postcode and the fault code to check coverage.

Do you offer 24/7 emergency callouts?

Yes. Our standard hours are Monday to Sunday, 8 AM to 8 PM. Emergency callouts are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, subject to location and availability. An additional emergency callout charge applies and is confirmed before dispatch.

Don't Let an AdBlue Fault Disrupt Your Day

Tell us your vehicle registration, fault code and postcode. We'll check compatibility, discuss the available options and help you arrange an appointment.
