AdBlue Guide

Why AdBlue Pressure Drops

AdBlue Delete and Removal describe different approaches to SCR faults, but a pressure warning first needs a diagnosis. Low AdBlue pressure can result from leaks, pump or supply problems, faulty readings or freezing conditions. The correct pressure target depends on the vehicle and SCR system; there is no single figure that applies to every diesel.

01Understanding the service

What Low AdBlue Pressure Means

The SCR dosing system must build and control pressure so it can deliver the required quantity of fluid to the exhaust. A low-pressure fault generally means measured pressure has not met the controller's expected value under particular operating conditions. It does not identify the failed component by itself. Dashboard warnings, restart restrictions and any reduction in power depend on the vehicle and the fault strategy.

  • P20E8: Reductant Pressure Too Low.
  • P204F: Reductant System Performance, Bank 1, a broader system fault, not proof of low pressure.
  • P208E: Reductant Injection Valve Stuck Closed, Bank 1 Unit 1, not confirmation of a physical blockage.
  • White deposits near joints may indicate dried AdBlue from a leak or spill; inspect before drawing conclusions.
  • Record the exact warning message and any restart countdown before arranging diagnosis.

Common causes of pressure loss

Possible causes include a leaking delivery line or connector, an internally leaking dosing valve, a worn pump, restricted fluid supply, or an electrical supply fault. A pressure sensor or its wiring can also report low pressure even when the hydraulic fault is elsewhere. Crystallisation may affect flow or valve sealing, but a blocked nozzle does not necessarily lower pressure at the pump. Tank ventilation problems should be investigated where the vehicle's design and symptoms support that diagnosis, rather than assumed across whole brands.

  • Check fluid level, condition and evidence of contamination.
  • Inspect the tank, lines and connections for leaks or damage.
  • Test pump power supply, earth connections and relevant wiring.
  • Compare commanded and measured pressure using the manufacturer's procedure.
  • Check dosing-valve operation and pressure retention where specified.

Temperature, system design and vehicle identification

AdBlue freezes at approximately −11°C. SCR systems are designed to thaw it, but heater or control faults can delay pressure build-up in freezing conditions. Heater failure alone does not explain low pressure in warm weather. Pump designs, pressure targets and component availability vary between engines and production versions, including within the same model range. Send your registration so the likely SCR configuration can be checked; a VIN or component identification may also be required.

How Pressure Faults Should Be Diagnosed

Read all relevant control modules and save fault codes and freeze-frame data before clearing anything. Check pressure under the specified test conditions, including fluid temperature and pump command. Some systems deliberately depressurise or purge after shutdown, so a falling reading with the engine off is not automatically a leak. Follow the correct pressure-build and retention tests before condemning the pump or tank assembly.

      Choosing the appropriate work

A confirmed fault may call for a connector repair, replacement line, dosing valve, heater or pump module. Some designs integrate components into the tank, which can affect replacement options. Software updates or service procedures may be relevant where supported by vehicle-specific technical information. Disabling SCR operation does not restore the faulty hardware, and no assessment should promise that all future warnings or restart restrictions will disappear.

        Arranging mobile assessment

Send your registration and postcode to check vehicle suitability and appointment availability. Include the warning message, mileage and diagnostic codes if available. Some faults can be investigated at your location, while others may require additional testing or facilities; the next step should follow the evidence.

          Questions customers ask us

Still unsure? Send us your registration and a photo of the warning on WhatsApp.

          Ask on WhatsApp
          What is AdBlue Delete?

AdBlue Delete refers to software changes intended to disable SCR dosing and associated monitoring. It does not repair a leaking pipe, failing pump or faulty pressure sensor, and it should not be described as a guaranteed cure for every warning or restart countdown. Send your registration and diagnostic report so the vehicle's system can be checked.

          What is AdBlue Removal?

AdBlue Removal is often used to mean electronic disabling of the SCR system rather than physical removal of its components. Ask what the proposed work includes: disabling a system is different from diagnosing and repairing a pressure fault.

What is the difference between AdBlue Repair and Delete?

AdBlue Repair aims to restore normal SCR operation by finding and correcting the underlying fault. Delete changes system operation rather than restoring pressure. A repair might involve wiring, a pipe, a dosing valve or a pump module; a complete tank is not always required.

          What is an AdBlue Fix?

An AdBlue Fix should start with diagnosis rather than an assumption that the pump needs replacing. Fault codes, live pressure readings, electrical checks and leak tests help establish what work is needed.

What vehicle and postcode information do you need for a quote?

Send your full registration, current postcode, mileage and the exact warning message. Include any scanned fault codes and details of previous repairs or recent refills. These help us check the likely system configuration and mobile availability; further vehicle details or inspection may be needed.

Can I send my warning light photo on WhatsApp?

A clear dashboard photograph and a copy of the diagnostic report can help with initial assessment. If contacting us through an available WhatsApp channel, include your registration and postcode. A photograph alone cannot establish why pressure is dropping or confirm the repair.

Do you offer 24/7 emergency callouts?

Yes. Our standard hours are Monday to Sunday, 8 AM to 8 PM. Emergency callouts are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, subject to location and availability. An additional emergency callout charge applies and is confirmed before dispatch.
